March 8, 2016 – Washington, D.C. – Foreign Policy is partnering with Vital Voices Global Partnership and the Embassy of Sweden this evening to host the first annual Global Solutions Summit. Coinciding with International Women’s Day, this event will shed light on some of the greatest challenges facing the planet, and build upon the solutions that the women of today are creating for tomorrow.
The inaugural Solutions Summit will feature the 2016 Vital Voices Global Leadership Honorees, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, Akanksha Hazari, Khanim Latif, and Yoani Sánchez. These four fearless leaders from around the world will each present a global challenge, their solution for addressing it, and the impact they hope to create. They will then be paired with a panel composed of Foreign Policy Leading Global Thinkers, industry experts, and established leaders and influencers who will challenge the Honorees’ ideas, provide constructive feedback, and ultimately support and accelerate their solutions.
“This unique event and partnership will bring forth some of the most courageous leaders that are shaping our world today, one solution at a time,” said FP Group CEO and editor David Rothkopf. “We’re excited to be working with Vital Voices to bring these issues and women leaders to the forefront of policymakers and influencers’ agendas.”
Vital Voices’ President and CEO Alyse Nelson said, “We’re so proud to partner with Foreign Policy on the first ever Global Solutions Summit – this innovative initiative offers concrete support to women leaders who work in some of the world’s most dangerous places, chipping away at some of its most enduring problems.”
“As Sweden continues to work at the frontline of global issues, not least gender equality and human rights, we are proud to support this important summit,” says Björn Lyrvall, Ambassador of Sweden to the U.S.
The respondents who will react to the four Honorees’ solutions include: Gail Becker, President of the Strategic Partnerships and Global Integration for Edelman; Carla Dirlikov Canales, 2015 Foreign Policy Leading Global Thinker and CEO and Artistic Director for The Canales Project; Amy-Willard Cross, 2015 Foreign Policy Leading Global Thinker and Founder of the Buy Up Index and Vitamin W Media; Megan Smith, United States Chief Technology Officer; Cindy Whitehead, Former CEO of Sprout Pharmaceuticals; Ken Wollack, President of the National Democratic Institute; and Wendy Young, 2014 Foreign Policy Leading Global Thinker and President of KIND (Kids in Need of Defense).
